Alright people, hands up those of you who were ecstatic that FINALLY, a Playstation Exclusive, the Final Fantasy series, was coming to the XBOX 360? Well, we all know how THAT turned out don’t we? A game made by the company that brought us Final Fantasy VII (A game people are still clamoring for a remake of!), one that was famous for being almost as side story heavy as many Bethesda games, and it was the most linear game we’d ever seen!
There were hardly any side stories, or optional meetings! No towns to explore, no customizable weapons… let’s face it, there was no way you could call it an RPG! So now, Square Enix has promised to deliver what we should have gotten from the first game. But is it a pathetic attempt to grab more cash? Or have Square Enix realized that they could lose more customers and decided to give us a game we can be proud to own?
Well, for now it looks like it’s a money grabbing scheme. Why? Well, Square Enix has promised that twice a month we can download costumes and weapons. Those will only be unlocked if we do a certain quest… “But hang on, isn’t that what RPGs are about?” YES, but you didn’t let me finish!
What Square conveniently didn’t say was whether we’d have to pay for the DLC… now considering how almost all DLC costs money, this is their way of making us regular blokes pay through the nose to keep enjoying ourselves (AKA the World of Warcraft method).
Personally, I think if the DLC isn’t free, I’m boycotting Square altogether. They just want money and, as Final Fantasy XIII and XIV have shown, they’ve stopped caring about making a quality game.
What do you think, gamers? Do you really want to keep paying just for some costumes and weapons and quests, that should have been in the original game anyway? Up to you. Until next time!
