To help get a better idea of what vanguards do in their society based on their roles, I decided to write this article. Like I said before, I’ve lived the life of a vanguard in my head and I’ve seen what they do at work, how they laugh, act, love, etc… So, I want to share that with you and help you connect to them like I have. Hope you enjoy the article and some of the jobs that they do lol Article will be split into Male and Female portions. Enjoy!
Sorry for not going into more detail but adding every detail would be boring. It would be like watching someone live their day on t.v. and seeing everything instead of only the good stuff like they normally would show.
A typical vanguard male (military) will wake up, put on his armor and report for the duty. Since the majority of males are soldiers, entire planets are basically fortified already. It is hard to invade a city on a planet when 85% of the males in the city are soldiers. So this gives soldiers a bit of room to do other stuff like duel and train while on-duty. Vanguard military is not that strict with what vanguards do while on-duty, unless they are guarding a priority target such as a person or place. In this situation vanguard soldiers would be on high alert the entire time. Vanguard military emphasizes on a high alert status at all times. Vanguard do not believe in relaxing while patrolling or guarding their territories. Now, they are not all stiff and trigger happy, what I mean by high alert is that they pay attention all the time and perform their duties down to the last detail. So, with this being said, if a vanguard soldier isn’t training or on regular duty, their “active” duty as I’ll call it is pretty strict.
Afterwards, the males tend to group together and relax for a bit before returning home. Vanguards have a curfew which serves two functions; one being that the vanguard society doesn’t have people out at night making noise or doing anything else that would disrupt those asleep; two being that vanguards can guard and patrol easier at night giving them the advantage against assassins, spies, or incoming enemy attacks in-case ships above fail to report an attack or are not able they can see into the sky to see the battle above (light pollution from a populace awake at night would ruin this ability).
After hanging out, vanguards love to spend time with their families so that is where the majority of the time will be spent. While at home, the males will help train their son(s) in combat and prepare them for the entrance exam at age 7. All vanguard males go through this process and must pass in order to become a vanguard soldier in training. Each child is giving three chances to pass the exam, if a child fails, then the child must work in the civilian sector. Though, to this day there has only been one child who has failed the exam three times and he is Supreme Commander Elrik. That story will be told later when I do his bio.
For civilian vanguard males, life is pretty much what we would call a regular work day. They wake up, go to their job (engineer, doctor, researcher, scientist, construction, farmer, city watch, drill instructor, or ship yard worker) and usually the job lasts 10 hours. Vanguard do not get overtime like we would, they simply do as they are told and do not complain. The service to the Empire is all that matters to them. Though you would think it would bring shame to work as a civilian, the jobs need to get done and those as soldiers realize this and do not make any stigmas about it.
After work, just like the soldiers the civilian males spend time with their families. The males will teach their children to fight and prepare for the exam. Males do not generally help their daughters as that is the job of the female, but the males do pitch in from time to time. Family life is balanced and loving in vanguard society.
Females are born and raised as civilians. There is no specific training and females do not have to participate in military. Though, all females are required to train and learn how to fight in the event they must help defend the planet if the males are suffering to many losses and can’t recoup. Females pretty much get to choose what they want to be in vanguard society. There are many jobs that they can choose from (daycare, farmer, scientist, engineer, bridge operator , ship technician, doctor, housewife, shop keep, drill instructor for females, and Calvary technician. ) and it isn’t hard to get into a profession (unless it’s full or near full).
Whatever the females decide to do as their career, they are required to be home before the males to cook dinner and prepare the house. Females are required to do this because they are not the ones sent to die on the battle field. Males are held to a higher standard when it comes to stuff like this so are not required to participate. However, females do not have a problem with this and are proud to serve their mates. Females and males have a lot of mutual respect for their counter-parts.
Females help their daughters learn how to take care of clothing, cook, learn the profession they perform (if the child is interested in it), first aid, and basic survival techniques. Males can teach their daughters about survival as well, but males are usually to busy training their sons and their professions to do it. Though, males with civilian jobs usually have more time a
