Hey guys! Here is the last bio you all have been waiting for! The Maran bio will be favorite as I’ve always wanted to get this down. I love the two other races, and I don’t have a #1 pick as I love them all equally, but I think the Maran are pretty cool. Check out the bio and let me know what you think!
The maran share a planet with the Almera. Before the vanguard came and conquered their race (by peaceful methods) they had little skirmishes here and there. There was never a full length war but sometimes the skirmishes lasted days. The maran are a wolf like race which still walk and run on all 4 four legs. Like the Almera, the maran are extremely intelligent. They have the IQ of two humans and are also labeled as geniuses by the vanguard. And like the almera, the maran cannot speak and their animal instinct is dominate. The maran serve to please and act like a human dog would. But, the vanguard do not consider them as pets but as people and soldiers. The maran are ground cavalry for the vanguard and vanguard soldiers ride them into battle. Maran soldiers usually wear thin armor to help protect them as unlike the narn or almera, the maran do not have a thick protective skin (scales or rocks) to keep them safe. The maran have the ability to intimidate their enemies by making their eyes glow a blue-ish color. The maran body will mix two chemicals together which will mix with the eye to create this affect. The chemical also reacts with the air around the eyes creating a mist affect. Here are two examples of what I mean. First example will demonstrate how they light up, and the second example will demonstrate the mist affect. — Example 1 | Example 2 (imagine blue mist)
The maran are very fast and very deadly. They are experts at sneaking and even better at assassinating targets. They come equipped with razor sharp claws and a nice set of teeth. Marans on average stand (on 4 legs) about 6 feet and 7 feet in length. Marans are very big yet agile creatures. Vanguards who complete their training and giving a maran cub to raise and use as their mount. Vanguards do this as well with the almeras.
Unlike almeras (which are too big), maran cubs will live with the vanguard it was assigned to. The maran will become part of the vanguards family and everything that soldier is afforded, the maran is given as well.
All three factions (maran, almera, narn) are given top notch healthcare (required to get a physical yearly), and when injured usually get priority over the vanguard they were assigned with. Because vanguards are stronger and do not need as much medical attention they are not given priority (most of the time) when they and their mount have been injured.
Do to the large amount of cubs a maran female will produce, it is not hard to find enough cubs to give to vanguard soldiers. Almera infants do not find their rider till they are in their teens due to the protective nature of their mother. Like the almera, marans have a lack of males. Males only live a few years and are very rare. When a male is found, they are treated as kings and taken care of by the females. Females will mate about 20 times a day and an average female will produce about 25 to 50 cubs in a year. In that one day, an average male will mate with enough females to give the maran race 500 new cubs. Maran males can live a few years so you can do the math on that one. About one in every 800 cubs is a male.
Marans rule their society like the almerans do. A queen maran will rule the entire pack, and the others will protect and feed her. But, loyalty is very strong in maran society so when another wishes to challenge the queen, they usually have to go through a few of the queen’s subjects first. Marans will stop another from trying to gain power and if one does succeed in killing the queen, marans generally kill the new queen out of respect for the old one. Only on rare instances have the vanguard recorded a new queen staying in power and fending off her attackers. When this happens respect is earned and the rest of the pack falls in line.
Marans have a unique ability to be able to run almost indefinitely. Marans have a two lung system. While running or doing a intense physical activity their body switches from one set of lungs to the next. When this happens the fresh air collected in one will rush through their bodies and refresh the maran as if they had not done any activity what-so-ever. While one lung is recouping the spent air, the air the maran takes in fill the gap for a little bit replenishing it’s body with a little bit of air. Once the other set of lungs is nearly done the fresh set goes off to refresh the maran and the whole process begins again. Vanguards who ride the marans can tap either the right side or the left side of the maran chest to manually launch the fresh lung into releasing. This helps speed the replenishment rate of gathering air.
Well, that is all. If you have any questions or suggestions please let me know in the comments below!
