The entire plot of this series revolves around the myth of the 2012 disaster, and because Ubisoft wanted to tell the story in five console games, we have this. Assassin’s Creed follows a plot point that lets you go into a person’s DNA to read the memories of their ancestors. Desmond, a bartender, holds in his genetic code the history of a deadly war between two secret groups.

The Assassins fight for free will even if it means annihilation; while the Templars wish to keep our civilization free under their control. The Assassins and Templars have struggled against each other to find the truth about humanity’s origins and the secrets of power through devices not of this world.

The two expansions, Brotherhood and Revelations, give deeper insight into the continued story of Assassin’s Creed 2. I call them expansions because they extend the story of Renaissance Assassin, Ezio Auditore, throughout his life while keeping the plot grounded in dealing with the Apples of Eden. While it is true that Ubisoft decided to sell them as their own games (with the marketing and price tag to back it up), I can’t help but think of them as what they are; drawn out expansion packs Assassin’s Creed 3 will deal with an entirely different era in history, as well as a new Assassin. I’ll expand on the concept of extended expansion packs being sold as entirely new games another time.

Set between 1753 and 1783, and Assassins and Templars find themselves influencing the American Revolution. The story follows Connor Kenway, a English-Native American that falls into the conflict at a young age. He then rises to take up the fight for freedom and justice as an Assassin. Sound familiar? We went through this with Ezio, but now it’s in America. I’m sure there will be more to this story since the mystery of The Ones Who Came Before will be revealed and the end of the world will either come to pass or be averted.

One thing is for certain, there will be no more hidden blades. While I’m sad about that, he’s equipped with a tomahawk. Think of how much damage you can do with one of those bad boys! Apparently, features from Red Dead Redemption will appear, such as hunting and open frontier exploring. Does this mean that there will be more of a sandbox feeling to this? I disliked being bottled into an area until you ‘synchronized’. Only time will tell as we come closer to E3. Assassin’s Creed 3 sneaks into your game collection on October 30, 2012!
