Hey guys, here is another bio for the vanguard faction. This bio will be about the Narn who are golem like creatures that serve that vanguard faithfully. I can’t decide who I like more out of the three factions that have joined the vanguard cause. But, check out this bio and I’ll let you decide which one You think is better. Stay tuned for the counter-part articles to this about the Almera and Maran factions. Can’t decide without reading those now can we?
Narn = Single golem or lots of golems
The golem are earth like creatures which in habit a world called “The Rock Fortress”. The planet is called this because everywhere you look all you see is mountains and water. The creatures that happen to guard this planet look like mountains themselves so the vanguard saw it fit to call it this. The true name of the planet has a technical label but I won’t bore you with that. Anyways, the golem race, the narn, live on this world all by themselves. There are no animal life what-so-ever on their planet and that is how they like it. The narn live a peaceful life and don’t have much of a society. They pretty much keep to themselves and on occasion will group together.
The narn vary in size but the average narn is about 12 feet tall and roughly weighs a couple tons. The narn are made of rock and earth and what holds it together is a mystery to the vanguard. The narn can speak, have low intelligence (roughly a 5 or 6 year old), are very mature, and can eat. The narn eat the earth and vanguard scientists do not know why or how their body processes it. The vanguard know very little about this race, even after considering how long they have been together (5 or million years if you were curious). Scientists are just baffled by the narn and the narn are of no help due to their low intelligence. They don’t know why they do the things they do, only that it feels like instinct to them.
The narn, even with their low intelligence understand a lot of stuff. The vanguard offered them a place at their side and even a spot in their military. The narn do not like conflict but fell in love with the vanguard race. So, in return for friendship the narn decided to help the vanguard kill their enemies. The narn are hard to kill and very tough. The narn can run at speeds of 20 to 30 miles and sustain this speed almost indefinite they are not that suited for the battle field. The narn typically guard vanguard facilities, such as cities, outposts, garrisons, etc. The narn are perfect guards as they sleep all day and while sleep they resemble boulders in the ground. You wouldn’t expect them to be guards at all by how they look in this position. But, what makes them good guards is that the narn have the ability to sense vibrations in the ground, even small ones and can tell if they are friend or foe. The narn make up for their lack of intelligence with a impressive instinct system. They are able to remember the sound vanguard people make, the vibrations they make, the sound and feel of ships, etc… and all this gets encoded into them so when a unrecognizable feeling arises, the narn react instantly and go on alert. The narn have huge bodies but odly enough, their face isn’t that big. Their face sort of resembles a human’s face, with features like eyes, mouth, ear like objects and a noise. Now, the noise and ears don’t look like a human’s would, but you can sort of tell that is what they are.
The narn are huge sometimes so it gets hard to transport them. Those too big (30ft+ or more) and left on the planet to guard their home world while the others are transported in specially crafted carriers. The vanguard like to grab the narn as infants and take them off-world before they grow to a size that can’t be moved anymore. The vanguard are not sure how they reproduce as no matter where the narn go, offspring follow. The narn simply say “They sprout” when asked how they reproduce. This has led vanguard scientists to theorize that the narn drop spores or spore like particles on planets they inhabit and after a short period of time a new narn is born. There is no recorded data of a birth of a narn as sadly the time it takes, and how to tell which is a Narn and just a rock are not known. Infant narn just appear walking around and almost as instinct, know where the older narn are. This helps in locating them.
Narn mourn their dead like elephants on earth do. The Narn will gather and mourn the loss of one of their own and even know how to spot old narns’ that have died long ago. What we would see as a pile of dirt and rocks, the Narn can tell that it used to be one of them. Scientists are still trying to crack the code on the narn but have yet to come up with anything. Their age is a mystery but vanguard scientists debate often on it. The two most popular theories are that the narn either live to be 500 years old or 20,000 years old. The narn have no way of telling time, even when trying to use vanguard time they simply respond with “Lived a lot”. If you can get past their rough surface, the narn are quite lovable. It is probably why the vanguard have taken to them so well and why the narn love the vanguard.
Well, that is it. If you would like to add to this or make any edits let me know in the comments below.
P.S. Here is an image I found that I like that resembles one of the big golems. This is not the actual concept design nor how they will really look. This is a simple design I found that looks like what I have in my mind as a golem.
