I do have to agree that $500 is a lot for a games console. However, I think it’ll be worth it for the great spec you get with it. I really hope that they somehow improve the graphics and make Xbox Live free (unfortunately that’s probably not going to happen :( ).

Well, when you put it that way you do get a great piece of hardware for the price but the thing is in 6-8 months after it comes out any and all bugs are pretty much fixed and it’s 70% cheaper. I just don’t see the point of paying that much unless they can guarantee the product for life. My xbox 360 Elite worked for a year then I had to send it in. I paid $400 for it + $100 to get it fixed. So I spent $500 on a console that is only worth $50-$100 now. I just wished they had guarantees if their gonna charge that much in the beginning and then take away the guarantee when it reaches $200 range.

That’s a really good point about the bugs. It’s bound to be pretty buggy when it comes out. :(

I’m worried about lack of backwards compatibility, which seems to be the trend these days.

I’ve gone back to playing on older consoles, and it’s not the end of the world or like playing pong. But please MS, it’s just a matter of physical space!

Ps VERY excited!!! How long til Christmas??

True that! I was really disappointed when I found out I couldn’t play any of my old Kingdom Hearts titles on my PS3. I know this is an Xbox thread but I just wanted to let you know, I know that feel bro. Besides, I have both and I don’t want to be flamed by any possible Hardcore Xbox fanboys :S

I forgot to mention this in the article, but are any of you concerned about how many bugs it will have? They pushed the xbox 360 out before it could be properly tested and 70% of the machines were defective. I am worried they will push it out because they want to make money and it will end up being like the 360. Due to that fact, I waited I believe two whole years before buying a xbox. By that time, the elite was out so I bought that instead of a normal one.

    I don’t know…Your thoughts on this?

Oh boy, “always on internet”? I guess it’s going to tank just like the Xbox 360 did here in North America: not everybody has the resources to have their internet connection perpetually plugged to their internet connection. Also, they better think about thriving off digital distribution, because what they said about not being able to sell used games once they’re “locked ” to a single console will definitely hurt sales.

On the technical perspective, though, dual GPUs sound great. Kind of like AMD CrossFire on a console. Let’s just hope it doesn’t mean another Red Ring of Death party. As for the cores….it’d definitely be wiser if they went for two. Six-core processors are not in high demand because the programs that take advantage of this architecture are almost nonexistant, and the Sony PS3′s Cell Processor’s six-core layout has been criticized by game developers for being extremely difficult to code for.

If Microsoft decides to address the issues that have already been mentioned by many gamers with the tentative information for the new Xbox, then we might definitely have a winner on our hands. If not, well…we’ll have to wait and see.

Xbox 720 is pretty weird name but what can I do lol. I remember when the Xbox 360 came out I purchased the first 1 million units & got my free media remote which was boss. However I purchased my 360 from EBay for 900!!!! It retailed for like 450 or 500 but was all sold out so I spent double price haha!

    • ford1001 says:

I hope they don’t keep the name as being Xbox 720, hopefully something better, alot better.

I am looking forward to buy the new Xbox 720 because my old xbox 360 really needs to be replaced. I hope that this new xbox will ‘rock my world’ :) ).

Anyway, I am not going to buy it as soon as it released because the price is too high and in 3-4 months it will be way cheaper.

Well, I kind of have mixed feelings about this for one thing a new console means the 360 is going to be put down by Microsoft soon and I really think that the console has yet to utilize its full potential with the games and especially with the Kinect and I have to admit that the 360 has some sentimental value with me. Having said that, I hope that the 720 is going to take console gaming to new heights and I only wish that Microsoft thoroughly polish and test the console before retailing it because I don’t want to deal with another RROD issue in the horizon.

  8. SwizZz says:

I’ve heard about this over the past few months but I wasn’t sure if it was real or not.

Have any images of the new console been released yet?

  9. RonaldRamos RonaldRamos says:

I predicted that the new consoles will be out only by 2016. I missed the mark there! lol

Anyway, I guess new consoles should come around sooner or later but if that happens and it comes as early as 2013 then I would probably stop at the current generation of consoles. I was hoping that the longevity of these consoles would be longer because of the games becoming even more impressive over the years that pass by. The 360 and PS3 still have a lot of juice in it that must be used by developers.

I’m still excited for the games to be released late into the cycle though. They’re probably going to be mind droppingly awesome!

I’m really short of money. I agree with the cost portion you say. I want to buy a new laptop and also was looking out for an XBOX 360 with Kinect. I hope these rumors are true (but Microsoft denies announcing early). Four to six core is damn huge and I don’t think I’d love the ‘always-on’ requirement, as I am scared of running-out of my bandwidth of my internet connection (its only 20GB!) but the built-in Kinect would be awesome, as I wouldn’t have to pay additional for a Kinect and it would take less space. Moreover, built-in Kinect would let the XBOX 720 have less cost. Hope that they give-away some downloadable game tokens with this one!
