Xbox Live Support Makes Bad Situation Worse!

Xbox live fails again when it comes to support.  One of the worse things to come up with technology is theft over the internet.  Well, in this case came in the form of theft is Susan whose Xbox Live account was hacked. Susan is a regular gamer just like you and I and had the unfortunate luck of getting their account hacked.  Most of us have experienced this kind of thing and know how frustrating and annoying it can get.

Susan is keeping a blog to update the status of the situation as it happens and we’re currently four days in. This story begins on January 2nd when Susan received a few emails, receipts for “$214.97 + Taxes” worth of purchases on Xbox Live that she had not made herself. Someone had hacked her account, purchased a Family Gold Pack (which allows users to transfer MS Points from the associated family accounts) and 10,000 Microsoft Points, then transferred them out.

Susan wasn’t able to login to her account because the hacker had changed her password. Susan called Xbox live support who told her the Fraud Department would look into it and that they’d had locked her account. for a 30-day investigation.  Everything seems to be going as you would expect but she is out of a good portion of money for a young mother of a 1 year-old disabled boy.

The next morning Susan received more emails receipts. The hacker is still buying stuff but how can this be?  Well, it appears Xbox live has not blocked the account even though they said they did.  This young mother continues to lose out to Xbox live support and this hacker keeps walking away with free stuff which the hacker paid for using her cash.

This isn’t the whole story as Susan was able to do investigating on her own – because the account still hasn’t been blocked of course – to find info on who was running this scheme, so be sure to check her blog for the full story and spread the word.

The scary thought is how many other people this may be happening too and how many other similar cases Xbox Live Support must handle, especially since the hacker is making a business out of it.
